Spears has recalled first learning about the #FreeBritney movement to end her conservatorship from a nurse while “locked up” at a Beverly Hills rehab centre.

In the later years of the conservatorship, which ended in 2021, a movement emerged bringing awareness to Spears’s situation after fans became concerned for her safety and wellbeing.

In The Woman in Me, Spears recalls trying to fight against the conservatorship in 2018, only to be forced to undergo further mental health evaluations and another rehab stay.

While The Woman in Me hits shelves today, the audiobook version has also been released.

But while fans had hoped Spears herself would narrate her story, the singer recently shared that Michelle Williams would instead read the audio version of her memoir

The news came as Spears, 41, admitted she’d found it too painful to “relive” her experiences once more.

The film’s producer has described how, at one point during the shoot, Spears’ team “wanted her to be recording at night after she did a full day’s work on the set”. Ann Carli recalled: “I just said, ‘Absolutely not. I’ll shut the movie down right now, because that’s not fair to her.’”

For a star as bright as Spears, and a story as sensitive as hers, you might expect to find a veteran behind the byline. JR Moehringer (aka Prince Harry), perhaps? Joni Rodgers (aka Paris Hilton)? Hilary Liftin (Tatum O’Neal) or Ariel Levy (Demi Moore)? Instead, Spears is said to have selected Sam Lansky: journalist; novelist; (as far as we know) first-time ghostwriter.

Spears’s new memoir sheds light on her Instagram behaviour.

The singer’s social media account has attracted plenty of attention from her fans and from the media in recent years, with Spears often posting images of herself in various states of undress and videos of her dancing.

In The Woman in Me, the singer acknowledged that many of her followers might find her posts confusing, but revealed that she gets “joy” from “posing the way I feel sexy”.

“I know that a lot of people don’t understand why I love taking pictures of myself naked or in new dresses,” Spears writes in her autobiography.

“But I think if they’d been photographed by other people thousands of times, prodded and posed for other people’s approval, they’d understand that I get a lot of joy from posing the way I feel sexy and taking my own picture.”

The Grammy winner also shared that she was “devastated” when Timberlake broke up with her over text.

Spears is diving into a new career as a published author with the launch of her memoir.

The book is published by Simon & Schuster in a deal reportedly worth $15m, according to reports.

According to Forbes, the pop star was worth $60m in 2021, with the publication noting that previous court documents revealed that most of her assets are held in various brokerage accounts, real estate, and cash.
