A top Houston TV anchor and a popular reporter each suffered fractures to their legs within a week of each other.
Daniela Guzman, who hosts the weekday evening news on KPRC 2, told her fans on social media last Saturday that she was “on the road to recovery” after taking a spill and fracturing a bone in her left leg.
“DARN!! On crutches again! I’ve had 2 knee surgeries but I’ve never broken a bone until now,” Guzman wrote on her Facebook page, where she posted an image of her left leg wrapped in a cast as she left a hospital on crutches.
“I tripped and fell last night all by myself! On the road to recovery!” she wrote, adding an emoji depicting a woman slapping her own forehead in exasperation.
Guzman was told by doctors that she broke the last two metatarsals on her left foot, according to the Houston Chronicle.
The injury will require between six to eight weeks in order to heal, though it will not affect Guzman’s anchoring duties, the Chronicle reported.
In 2017, Guzman, who was then a morning anchor for KNBC-TV in Los Angeles, tore the meniscus in her left knee — an experience she wrote about in LA Parent magazine.
Meanwhile, ABC 13 Houston reporter Miya Shay was released from Houston Methodist hospital last Saturday after she broke her leg following a fall at her home.
Shay, who covers Houston city government and breaking news stories for the Disney-owned station, slipped on a deck at the back of her house at around 6:25 a.m. local time on Sept. 18, the Houston Chronicle reported.
She posted CT scans showing three broken bones in her right leg.
“Man, the CT scans of my makes it super clear where the break is. As someone told me (half joking?) if you’re going to break something, go big or go home,” Shay wrote on her X account.
The injury necessitated surgery, which Shay underwent earlier this week. Doctors have told her a follow-up operation is needed.
Last week, Shay posted an image on X showing an “X” marking on her left foot — even though she had injured the right foot.
“Just noticed this ‘X’ the surgery folks marked on my foot,” Shay wrote on X on Sept. 21.
“Hey, my leg may be still messed up, but I appreciate they tried to fix the correct one!”
In April, a woman filed suit against Houston Methodist doctors after they allegedly operated on the wrong foot.
