Taylor Swift’s ‘Eras Tour’ movie set for box office record

Taylor Swift’s “Cruel Summer” will turn into a splendid windfall for theater owners.

The superstar’s upcoming film “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour,” is expected to rake in $100 million in ticket sales for its opening weekend — which would shatter the previous record for a concert movie, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Presale tickets to the film — which premieres Oct. 13 and follows the 33-year-old “Shake It Off” singer as she performs her 44-song setlist during a six-night run at the SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, Calif. — has hauled in $70 million as of Friday, Deadline reported.

The massive presale sum is already within shouting distance of the $73 million — in total domestic sales — earned by 2011’s “Justin Bieber: Never Say Never,” which holds the record for the top-grossing concert film.

Swift’s army of fans, or Swifties, have even outdid AMC’s advance sales for “Avengers: Endgame,” according to Deadline.

In true Swift spirit, the hidden-message-loving singer has priced the tickets at $19.89 for adults and $13.13 for children and seniors for showings at AMC theaters — a nod to her album titled “1989” and her lucky number 13.

“Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour” will be released in US cinemas on Oct. 13, and has already earned $70 million in presale tickets as of Friday.

Deadline noted that opening weekend sales usually account for half of the flick’s opening weekend, meaning “The Eras Tour” movie could earn nearly $150 million for its opening weekend.

Swift’s tour is on track to amass a record-breaking $1 billion in sales after she tacked on an extra 15 dates to the 2024 leg.

Swifties who weren’t able to snag the highly-coveted and costly concert tickets, will be able to see what they missed at AMC, Regal and Cinemark theaters across the US despite the ongoing Hollywood strikes.

Swift, a member of the Screen Actors Guild and American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA), was granted a waiver by the unions since the unscripted film has no actors or writers, Billboard reported.

She also agreed to meet the terms the unions are seeking in their negotiations with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP), such as providing proper working conditions, pay for workers and breaks, according to Billboard.

The waiver also allows Swift to promote the film, which most other union members have been forbidden from doing because of the strike.

The two-hour, 45-minute documentary-style film follows the 33-year-old "Shake It Off" singer as she performs her 44-song setlist during her six-night run at the SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, Calif.

“The Eras Tour has been the most meaningful, electric experience of my life so far and I’m overjoyed to tell you that it’ll be coming to the big screen soon,” Swift shared in an Instagram post promoting the film.

According to Forbes, Swift is the second richest self-made woman in music, with an estimated net worth of $740 million, trailing only Rihanna’s Fenty Beauty-juiced fortune of $1.4 billion.
