Research firm Gartner predicts that sales of devices running Google’s Android operating system will hit 1.1 billion in 2014. That would mark the first time shipments of Android devices exceeded one billion and would also represent a nearly 26% increase from last year. Gartner expects Android to remain the most popular operating system thanks to the success of low-cost smartphones on the market, but shipments of Apple devices are expected to increase by the most, while shipments of Microsoft Windows devices will also be on the rise.
