Shares of Ford are rising in midday trading after CEO Alan Mulally confirmed after the close on Tuesday that he would remain at the company at least through 2014. Rumors had been swirling for months that Mulally would move to Microsoft, replacing CEO Steve Ballmer. Ballmer announced in August that he would be retiring within twelve months once his successor was chosen. Speculation that Mulally would replace him was fueled by his prior reluctance to give a definite answer about whether he would accept the position if offered to him. Now, Microsoft’s search wages on.
