There is big business hitched to the Olympic games: from construction companies to global brands like Nike, to each nation participating in the winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia, as well as upcoming sporting events in Brazil. These events are much more than just a point of pride: billions of dollars are channeled into development projects and security precautions as each host nation meticulously undertakes one of the world’s most high-profile events. Laura Brank, head of Dechert LLP’s Russian practice, talks with The Deal’s Jonathan Marino about the difficulties facing Sochi planners and what World Cup and Olympic work is being done now in Brazil.
