IBM’s bold decision to sell its low-end x86 server business to Lenovo for $2.3 billion was born out of the company’s desire to focus on higher-margin areas such as cognitive computing, according to Steve Mills, head of the tech giant’s Software and Systems business. Mills tells TheStreet’s James Rogers that he’s confident of IBM and Lenovo’s ability to complete the deal, pointing to Big Blue’s successful sale of its PC business to the Beijing-based firm in 2005.
