Europe’s 30 largest lenders face a ban on high-risk proprietary trading under a proposal adopted January 29 by the European Commission, the last of 30 legislative proposals in the EU’s post-crisis overhaul of financial regulations. Mario Nava, Director of Financial Institutions for the European Commission explains to The Deal’s Renee Cordes the reasons for the proposed ban and related measures and how it differs from the Volcker rule in the United States.
