The stock market opening bell rings at 9:30 a.m. ET, and the closing bell rings at 4 p.m. ET, but that doesn’t mean trading has to stop. Traders can use Extended-Hours Trading sessions to trade some securities, opening up additional time to react to market news, but trading in extended hours carries additional risks.
At TD Ameritrade, premarket trading operates from 7 a.m. to 9:28 a.m. ET, and after-hours trading runs from 4:02 p.m. to 8 p.m. ET. Check your local time zones here:
