U.S. single-family home prices climbed in January and slightly beat forecasts.
The S&P/Case-Shiller index of 20 metropolitan areas rose 0.8 percent in January on a seasonally adjusted basis. Economist estimates had been for an increase of 0.7 percent. TheStreet’s Jim Cramer says the increase is good news for home improvement retailers, like Home Depot (HD), who benefit from an improving housing sector. Cramer says, ‘if prices continue to rise, people are going to spend more on their homes.’
