As the first quarter came to a close, earnings per share growth estimates were at 1.2%. Just 4% of the S&P 500 companies have reported first quarter earnings. Of the twenty companies, 55% were above analyst expectations, 10% were in line with expectations and 35% reported below expectations. In a typical quarter, 62% of companies beat estimates, while 17% match and 21% miss estimates. There wasn’t one company that reported revenues in line with analyst expectations.
