Crowd-funding as a way to finance emerging company financing was one of the tenants of the 2012 JOBs act, but regulators tasked with the job of coming up with rules and regs on the national level have dropped the ball on writing the rules of the road. Since it’s still an attractive option for a lot of nascent businesses, states have picked up the slack from the feds and drafted a host of their own regs covering the terrain. But only a handful of states have come up with regulations.
