Homeowners don’t build or fix decks in the snow, says Ronald Kaplan, CEO of deck-building material-maker Trex, regarding the company’s underwhelming first quarter results. Kaplan says worries about the slow housing market affecting his business are overblown because nearly 95% of Trex’s sales are through the repair and remodeling market. Furthermore, Kaplan says foreign sales will be more of a factor going forward as Trex has expanded from 3 countries in 2008 into 37 countries today as European and Asian homeowners embrace the environmentally friendly wood-alternative product.
