The single most powerful force operating in China today is that of “aspiration”, says Evan Osnos, author of “Age of Ambition”. Osnos says there is a growing tension between Communist Party rulers and ambitious Chinese citizens seeking to express themselves. Osnos says fears that the Chinese credit bubble will soon implode are not entirely without merit. Nevertheless, he says the Chinese government has demonstrated the ability to manage the economy so far. The bigger risk, says Osnos, is a potential military conflict with Japan. As for investment opportunities, Osnos says the best Chinese sectors to invest in right now ¿are healthcare and education.
