Former New York Times executive editor Jill Abramson gave the Wake Forest commencement speech today. She addressed the graduates at a moment when there’s still a lot of debate about why she was really fired from the Times. Abramson told graduates it’s okay to be scared, but resilience is the key to success. She noted that fighting through the setbacks will show people what you are made of. Also, Abramson told the graduates it’s always good to have a sense of humor about yourself and didn’t speculate as to what her next job might be. The short speech Abramson delivered didn’t overshadow the difficulty of the situation, but she remained positive.
