Various stores were packed on the last shopping weekend before Christmas, but some retailers were clearly being passed over by consumers — putting investors in those companies at risk. Just like on Black Friday, Coach took to heavy discounts at department stores over Super Saturday weekend. At Lord & Taylor, most handbags were on sale for 40% off, while Macy’s offered a buy one, get one 50% off promotion. Barbie and Ken had a tough time finding friends as well. A good number of the dolls landed on discount racks at Walmart, while Target and Toys R’ Us were stocked full of Barbie inventory that will likely be marked down following the holidays. Teen retailer Abercrombie & Fitch has seemingly lost its cool factor, marking all of its stores 50% off.
