In a surprising reversal, Sony Pictures will release ‘The Interview,’ as about 300 local theaters have agreed to screen the film. Sony initially cancelled the movie’s release following threats of violence from North Korea. Still, none of the major chains have decided to run the film, which was initially set for release on Christmas Day though there is talk about streaming the movie online. YouTube has tentatively agreed to stream the film, sources tell CNN. This comes after criticism from the White House, which didn’t approve of Sony’s decision to pull the movie from upwards of 3,000 theaters nationwide, for fear of setting a dangerous precedent when it comes to free speech. Shares of Sony (SNE) are trading up almost 2% at $21.27 per share. TheStreet’s Scott Gamm has details from New York.
