Google’s Gmail service has reportedly been blocked in China. Google’s Transparency Report, which provides near real-time information about traffic to its products and services in various geographic regions, shows a large decline in traffic in China on Friday, December 26, which remained low through Monday, December 29. Google told us in a statement, ‘We’ve checked and there’s nothing technically wrong on our end.’ Google services including Gmail were blocked in China in June, but users were still able to access the service through other applications like Microsoft Outlook or Apple Mail. Google shut down operations of its search engine in mainland China in 2009, citing the country’s censors.
