VXX (previously VXXB) is a long volatility exchange-traded note (ETN) that is designed to give traders exposure to changes in the VIX Index. However, VXX does not track the VIX Index directly, and the VIX Index is not directly investable.
VXX is essentially the same product as the old VXX, but under a different temporary ticker symbol (VXXB) since the original VXX matured/expired on January 30th, 2019.
