While most films premiering at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival are looking for a buyer, ‘Slow West’ isn’t one of them. The film, which follows the story of a 16-year-old who travels across the American frontier in search of his love, was bought by A24 Films and DirecTV months ago, even before it was completed. Here in the U.S., the film will have an exclusive debut on DirecTV followed by a theatrical release by A24 Films. Maclean said online platforms like Netflix and Amazon are a positive thing for independent filmmakers because they create more distribution outlets. But despite the options, Maclean said every filmmakers ultimate goal is to see their work on the big screen. ‘You spend a lot of time working on the beauty and the color and the quality and then you have someone watching it on a pixelated iPhone.’ TheStreet’s Ruben Ramirez has details from Park City.
