Following in the steps of Netflix and Twitter’s Vine video app, Google this week launched YouTube Kids, an iOS and Android kid-friendly app. TheStreet reporter Jennifer Van Grove explains what’s driving the trend among technology companies looking to grab the attention of children. With many kids glued to video screens, Van Grove explains that technology companies are aiming to hook them while they’re young, and take advantage of the money trail that goes back to their parents. While digital video has not quite overtaken traditional television in terms of children’s viewership, Van Grove stresses the huge opportunity that remains for companies like Google, Netflix and Amazon to appeal to kids looking for entertainment.
