There is a real science to capturing a consumer’s attention and Facebook has built it into the core of its product, said Ben Parr, author of ‘Captivology.’ Parr added that the problem with video game-makers like King Digital and Zynga is that they focus too heavily on short term rewards as opposed to making long term connections. He said he coined the term ‘Captivology’ to demonstrate to people that there is in fact a science behind capturing and keeping a person’s attention. Finally, Parr said the ‘acknowledgement trigger’ is the deepest, most powerful mental response because we pay attention to things that validate us.
