RetailMeNot CEO Cotter Cunningham says the consumer shift away from desktop computers to smartphones is rapidly changing the way the world’s leading coupon company does business. Cunningham says the biggest opportunity with the shift to mobile is the opportunity to create more personalized deals and offers based on location. For example, as a person is walking through a mall and walking past different stores or restaurants, deals will pop up on their phones. RetailMeNot gets a small commission from each retailer when a customers redeems a coupon, but the company is also trying to grow other revenue streams. TheStreet’s Ruben Ramirez spoke with Cunningham at the company’s headquarters in Austin, Texas.
