SUMMARY
Keenan in Iowa calls into The Dave Ramsey Show to ask Dave if he should tell his family what’s in his will while he’s still alive. He and his wife decided to leave their kids to one side of the family – should he tell the other side of the family they’re not included?
Dave recommends telling your family sooner rather than later. He reminds Keenan, “Conflict is coming and it’s only going to be bigger once you’re dead.”
Remind everyone that this is your money and these are your kids. You get to make the decision. You can’t let the intimidation of how they may react keep you from telling them and making sure that your wishes are being followed.
Of course, this is a decision that you and your wife have to make together. But if sitting with your family and explaining the contents of your will now saves your kids from a legal headache later, then it’s worth it.
