The 131-year-old company that made baseball bats for legends like Babe Ruth has agreed to sell its Louisville Slugger brand to rival Wilson Sporting Goods for $70 million. The CEO of Hillerich & Bradsby said selling the iconic brand was ‘a difficult and serious one to make’ and ‘it was not an easy decision, nor one I took lightly.’ The deal will make Hillerich & Bradsby the exclusive wood bat manufacturing partner from its Louisville, Kentucky facility. Separately, the NYPost is reporting Time Warner Cable (TWC) is expected to take a $1 billion loss for a bad deal for TV rights to Dodgers games. With the new baseball season just a few week’s away, TheDeal’s senior writer Lou Whiteman gives his take on the business of America’s favorite pastime.
