A jury has ruled against Ellen Pao in her sexual discrimination lawsuit against Silicon Valley venture capital firm Kleiner Perkins. The jury found that gender did not play a role in denying Pao a promotion or ending her employment. The jury ruled against Pao in all but one count. The case zeroed in on gender imbalances and the lack of diversity in Silicon Valley. Pao’s lawyers had argued she was an accomplished junior partner who was passed over for a promotion and then fired because the firm judged men and women differently. A lawyer for Kleiner Perkins had argued that Pao failed as an investor at the company and sued to get a big payout as she was being let go. The suit had asked for damages totaling more than $16 million.
