Volkswagen brightened up the floor of the New York International Auto Show with its introduction of several special edition Volkswagen Beetle concept cars. Heinz-Jacob Neusser, head of global product development at Volkswagen, told TheStreet’s Rhonda Schaffler that the cars are designed to appeal to the emotional side of drivers, with each vehicle taking aim at specific lifestyles. The sunny orange Beetle is designed for the beach life, while the denim colored car is a throwback to the 1970’s, when the first jeans Beetle was introduced. Volkswagen has already designed the denim colored car will go into production. Volkswagen also introduced the new 2017 Golf Sportwagen Alltrack, which will be on dealers’ lots next year. Neusser said the vehicle is in between the sedan and midsize SUVs, combining both on-road and off-road abilities. The automaker also had its Golf models on display. The Golf, which won Motor Trends North American Car of the Year award, is considered a key model and a top seller for Volkswagen.
