FedEx announced Tuesday that it will acquire TNT Express in a $4.8 billion deal. TheStreet’s Jim Cramer says the deal is a sign that maybe this is the top in the dollar. He reasons that FedEx founder and CEO Fred Smith is an economist and it’s interesting that he’s choosing right now to buy the Dutch delivery company. Cramer believes Smith is taking advantage of the fact that our currency isn’t going to stay strong forever and that Europe is coming back. He says this one of the most important deals because it says to him the world is getting better, maybe the dollar is done going higher or at least it isn’t going to go up that much or else Smith would’ve waited. There was no hurry to do this deal if he didn’t feel that the currency was about to top out.
