General Motors (GM) said on Thursday that it plans to spend $1 billion over the next three years on upgrading and renovating its Warren Technical Center near Detroit, Michigan. The construction, which is set to start this month, will include upgrades to the existing facilities as well as the construction of a new design studio and a multi-story IT building. The upgrades will likely result in the creation of roughly 2,600 jobs in design, product engineering and IT. Just last month, GM announced that it would spend roughly $140 million for body shop and stamping facility upgrades at the Warren campus. Overall, GM plans to spend close to $5.5 billion on its plants in order to improve automobile quality. TheStreet’s Ruben Ramirez reports from New York.
