U.S. stocks opened steady Thursday as third quarter productivity came in stronger than expected. The Commerce Department says productivity rose 1.6% when a negative number was expected. However, productivity gained on odd hours from the manufacturers. Weekly jobless claims rose 16,000 to 276,000 which was the highest number in two months. SeaWorld (SEAS) says the problem with its earnings can be blamed on the ongoing battle it has with its public image. Ralph Lauren (RL) saw earnings beat expectations. AMC Networks (AMC) can thank zombies for its solid earnings. It also credits the boost to acquiring a stake in BBC America, which benefits from the likes of ‘Doctor Who’. The spin-off ‘Fear the Walking Dead’, which ended its first run with strong ratings, had the best first season of any show in cable history. The spin-off ‘Fear of the Walking Dead’, which ended its first run with strong rating helped boost advertising revenue in the 3rd quarter. The music industry is waiting on word from Adele on if she will stream her new album. The album, entitled ’25’ is set to be released in two weeks.
