Brian Sozzi of Belus Capital Advisors is looking for three important figures from J.C. Penney’s earnings report. Sozzi is looking to gross margins to find out how the retailer’s promotions have paid off. He says the stores are relying heavily on promotions to bring back lost customers. J.C. Penney is “obsessed” with total liquidity, but Sozzi says investors need to look at the operating cash flow figure to see how much revenue the company generated from the important holiday shopping season. Lastly, Sozzi says he needs to know who is going to run J.C. Penney in 2014 — and he doesn’t think it will be current CEO Mike Ullman.
